Trust, but verify

When Hazel gives you a number or makes a claim, you shouldn’t have to take it on faith. That’s why Hazel’s responses come with inline citations you can check. You’ll see small numbered markers next to key figures and findings. These aren’t just footnotes — they show you exactly where each piece of information came from.

How it works

1

Hazel answers your question

You get a clear response with charts, tables, and key findings — each with a numbered citation marker.
2

Click any citation

Click the number to see the source — whether it’s a query against your connected data, a web page, or something from Hazel’s memory about your brand.
3

Verify and share with confidence

Now you know exactly where every number came from. Share the analysis with your team or your board knowing it’s traceable.

Citation sources

Citations can come from several places:
  • Your data — queries run against Shopify, Meta Ads, Klaviyo, and your other connected sources
  • The web — links to external pages Hazel referenced (clickable so you can visit the source directly)
  • Memory — facts Hazel knows about your brand, like your target audience or brand voice

Why it matters

When you’re presenting numbers to your leadership team, sharing performance with a brand partner, or making a budget decision, you need to know the data is solid. Citations mean you can always answer the question: “Where did this number come from?” You’ll never be stuck saying “I think it’s from Shopify” — you’ll know.
Citations are available in Deep Thinking mode, where Hazel is pulling from multiple sources across a complex investigation. Every finding in the report traces back to its source.

Next up: Teach Hazel about your brand with Memory so every answer feels like it came from someone on your team.
